Horace Andy
Sun 7 Apr
  DJ Grandmaster Flash
Sat 20 Apr (SOLD OUT)
Mon 22 Apr (new date added due to huge demand)
One of Jamaica's most distinguished and beloved reggae vocalists, Horace Andy, is live at the Jazz Cafe this April. Blessed with one of the most distinctive voices on the island, his classic recordings from the '70s remain crucial listening, while his more recent work with trip-hop heroes Massive Attack introduced the singer to an entire new generation of devoted fans.   Jazz Café is proud to present the Grammy nominated, award winning, Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame inductee: Grandmaster Flash. During hip-hop's nearly 30-year history, few names have become as well known to music lovers across the globe as that of Grandmaster Flash. Not only is he responsible for inventing hip-hop, but his pioneering use of the turntables make him the first DJ to play the turntables as a musical instrument. With thirty awards under his belt, it is easy to see why this man is such an icon and great inspiration to many around the globe.

Live UK Music presents
Drizabone Soul Family
Thu 4 Apr
  Soulgigs.com presents
Tweet
Sat 25 & Sun 26 May
Originally coming to prominence in the 1990's with the worldwide smash 'Real Love', Drizabone Soul Family are now led by founder Billy Freeman, with two new principal vocalists on the project - Anneka Johnson and Nataya. The debut album on UK soul label Dome Records (home of Incognito and Beverley Knight ) received rave reviews and has included two singles which have been playlisted on Radio 2. The band's latest album, 'The Recipe Of Life' was released in September and they hit the Jazz Cafe with a full live band performance this April!   Tweet burst on the music scene in 2002 with a boldness and sensuality that made people quickly pay attention. Her first single, "Oops (Oh My)" climbed to the top of the R&B/Hip-Hop charts and made the industry take notice with her sultry lyrics and hypnotic voice. Having taken some time out to be a mum, she returns with a new album "Simply Tweet" and is live at the Jazz Cafe this May.

Big Daddy Kane
Wed 24 & Thu 25 Apr
  Manorexia
Thu 9 May
Don't miss legendary rapper Big Daddy Kane as he makes his debut performance at the Jazz Cafe this April. Kane has undisputedly defined the term "lyricist" in the world of hip-hop. Along with the vocal ingenuity he brought to the genre, during a career which spans nearly 25 years he's received several gold albums and endless music accolades including a Grammy award. Get your tickets today!   JG Thirwell's Manorexia started life as an electronic project and has now evolved into a mulit-tentacled beast taking in violins, viola, cello, piano, percussion and laptop. Ranging from sombre, oppressive drone works to lopsided syncopation, the overriding effect is bleak, cinematic what saves it from being pastiche is Thirwell's imagination and obvious delight in composing and producing.

FROM OUR FRIENDS AT THE BARFLY

Fimber Bravo
Camden Barfly / Thu 19 Mar

Hailing from Trinidad, award winning steel pan maestro Fimber Bravo is a phenomenon. Bravo was one of the founder members of the 20th Century Steel Band, whose record 'Heaven & Hell' became a hip-hop touch stone, referenced by Doug E Fresh, Soul II Soul, J-Lo and many more amongst the hip hop fraternity. A collaborator with Hot Chip, Fimber Bravo is one of the most influential exponents of the steel drum in contemporary music. For his new album 'Con-Fusion', Fimber has called upon a stellar cast of production collaborators: Hot Chip, Tom Hopkins, Jonnie Wilkes & James Savage from Optimo/Naum Gabo, Zongamin and Mickey Moonlight. The lead single 'Life After Doomsday' co-written and co-produced by Zongamin is typical of the albums fusion of contemporary production and Fimber's life affirming music - don't miss him live at The Barfly!

1995
Camden Barfly / Thu 21 Mar

Spearhead of a new French rap generation which knows draws from its roots whilst forging ahead, 1995 delivers their eagerly awaited first album "Paris Sud Minute" After two successful EPs and hundreds of shows, the group concentrated on the recording of their first long format. The result forces the respect and refocuses on the music. 1995 even goes beyond strictly hip hop limited territory : "Jet Lag" and the Japanese influenced production, "103" instrumental track blazing far further what we're used to in the rap game... Bottom line, we have a first album that should already be a classic. Catch their debut London show here at the Barfly!
